About The Author
Paul Joseph Bylin
Born: 1950 in South Boston, Massachusetts
U.S. Army: 25 September 1967 - 24 September 1970
Paul Bylin grew up in some tough neighborhoods in the Boston and surrounding areas. At 16, he quit school and worked in many shoe factories and laundries. Unable to hold a job, he and some friends got involved in crime. By the time Paul turned 17, he was beginning to feel his life needed a change. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and went for his training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. By the time he turned 18, he was sent to fight in Vietnam, where he would stay for almost 20 months. That experience changed his life, and the lives of those around him.
Once (honorably) discharged from the U.S. Army, Paul
worked at a few jobs until he was offered a position at Logan International
Airport in Boston, Massachusetts. He was the Lead Mechanic for Signature Flight
Support, and worked as an aircraft re-fuel mechanic and a ground equipment
mechanic for 28 years. Paul was also a proud member of the Teamsters Local 25
Union, where he served as the Chief Steward at his company until his
retirement.
Paul married his childhood sweetheart, Dale in 1971 and soon
had a baby daughter, Ruth. Dale lived through some pretty tough times with
him, and was always there with her love and support for him. If not for
her, this book would never have been possible.
There have been many
newspaper articles written about Paul. As well as many articles he wrote about
some of the veteran issues that were in the news. He is credited with many
editorials in various newspapers.
His book, The Other Casualty Of
War, is a true account of his service and how the Vietnam war affected his
life.
Paul is a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans. He is also currently the President of the 84th Engineer Battalion Association (Vietnam).
